Venice filmfest awards Iranian directors

Two feature-length films by Iranian directors have been awarded at the 65th edition of Venice International Film Festival in Italy.

Amir Naderi's Vegas: Based on a True Story received a special mention and the CinemAvvenire Best Film in Competition award.

Ramin Bahrani's Goodbye Solo won the Best Film award of the event's Horizons and International Critics' Week.

The aspiring Ramin Bahrani is the highly lauded director of Man Push Cart and Chop Shop.

Amir Naderi is best known for his Water, Wind, Dust and Runner, considered by many critics to be one of the most influential films of the past quarter century.

The 2008 Venice International Film Festival was held in five sections from Aug. 27 to Sep. 6 at Venice Lido.
